As a school we know that food is fundamental to the quality of a child’s life, not just in providing essential nutrition but in communicating and sharing positive values, attitudes and experiences with each other. We believe that adults (staff, parents and carers) should be good role models and should support the children in understanding how balanced nutrition contributes to a person’s health, happiness and general well-being.
We recently introduced our Healthy Eating Awards. Each week a student from every class is awarded a Star of the Week certificate for having a healthy lunchbox. At the end of the month the school Nurse then selects one winner from each key stage who has truly shown an understanding of what a healthy, balanced meal should comprise. Their prize is lunch with the Principal. This has proved hugely popular and some of the lunch boxes we have seen have been amazing!
